Autism Connects and Autism Rocks

The title is exactly how I feel about Autism and the journey I have taken along side my daughter, Jenny, on her road with Autism.

It is why I have written my book, "The Autistic Author and Animator", to share with other the positive of Autism and shine a rainbow of colors with it. My hope is to give not only hope and light at the end of the tunnel for a Autistic family, Autistic Individual and the Autistic Community, but as well reaching out to the General public and shedding the stigma box that still surrounds Autism. To highlight how these individuals and their families are a beautiful asset to not only our Society but to our work force as well.

We have had families, individuals, teachers, medical professionals, daycare centers and more, come up to us at our Book Signings and Speaking engagements and said how my book, Jenny's and my story has changed their lives and feel they can actually have a future. I am getting feedback from all over the world. It warms our hearts and touches our souls as that is what we set out to do with bringing Jenny's life with Autism out in the open and being revealed through my eyes and letting others know about not her triumphs but her tribulations as well.

The book relates a heartfelt story of the importance of perseverance, courage, and strength within a mother-daughter bond as their journeys' intertwine-revealing a mother who was her daughter's rock right from the beginning and did everything in her power to help her daughter see the light at the end of a dark tunnel. It is a striking narrative that illustrates one's full potential--a testament that Autism is no barrier to success and fulfillment.

In reading Jenny's journey, she has become and inspiration and role model to all of us and I personally, have learned so much from her and she says the say about me and what she has learned and take from me.

Taking the positive of Autism and not believing everything a doctor tells you has brought Jenny to where she is today, as I was told when she was just over 3, that she had low functioning Autism and that she would never do well, not talk well, never be where her peers are and her future in life was bleak. Well, I walked out of that specialist's office 25 years ago and said, "That's not going to happen".

Where is Jenny now, well, she is 28 years old, extremely high functioning, became a professional 2D and 3D Animator at the age of 18 and 19. Plus she became a Best Selling and Award Winning Author of her Trilogy Fantasy Fiction Book, "Dysnomia". And this when she was age 20 and 21 years of age. She was the youngest publisher they had. Wow, what a far cry from what I was told in that specialist's office all those years ago. Thank God, that I did not listen to what the specialist said, as I hear from other parents who have and felt helpless and their future was destroyed.

So, this book is written, to give the joy of a future for Autistic parents, the autistic child and their sibling.

Feedback from readers of the book, both from the Autistic Community and General Public, say the book is enlightening, eye opening, engaging, inspiring and raw. The highs and the lows are experienced in this book.

I did ask Jenny about exposing out in the open and if it was okay to write the book. At first, she wasn't very open to it, which I totally understood and wouldn't write it. However a couple of days after, she said to me, "You know Mom, if we can help one family or one individual with our story then we have done our job, write the book!" And the rest is history. The book has gone to people all over the world and been receiving how much it has brought joy, hope and peace in their lives and future.

You can get my book here on my Website and will post it out to you or you can buy on Amazon, Indigo, Chapters, Coles, Red Tuque, Ingram Sparks, Kobo books and Target.

Hope this read as also given incentive in your own lives as I have people from the General Public and have no experience or knowledge of autism, who have read our book and brought themselves to say, "We want to do a Jenny" as they inspired them to go after their dreams and goals, push down the barriers stopping them.

Take good care and till next time.

With luv,

Janet Walmsley
